Beauty Problems of the 1 Percent

rihanna-weight-loss.jpgCelebrities stressing about their weight, whether it’s post-baby or post-burrito, isn’t exactly newsworthy. Leave it to Rihanna to deviate from the expected. Lately the singer finds herself to be not over-, but underweight—the opposite problem that most people, famous or otherwise, seem to have. "I'm a size 0—and not happy about it," she said in a recent interview with Us. "I went way too far. I prefer myself a bit chunkier. I want my old butt back!" (For the record, she blames her hectic schedule and a lack of sleep for the weight loss.)
With gorgeous women like Adele, Christina Hendricks, and Sofia Vergara becoming more popular, I feel like exceptionally thin women saying "I wish I was curvier” is becoming a trend. And while those comments may be coming from a place of genuine admiration for figures that rival Marilyn Monroe, something about it still strikes me as condescending. Even if you really do want a bigger butt, saying so risks offending the vast majority of people—those who struggle to keep weight off, not put it on. I have the same reaction when women with ample cleavage say they envy the flat-chested. Frankly, it sounds like you're complaining about too much of a good thing.
And I'll believe Rihanna's claims when I see her sporting true curves, not just going from a size zero to a size two.
